The OTC-6673 Belt tension gauge is for checking tension on timing belts and fan belts. Accurately adjust the timing belt and fan belts with this OTC tool. Using the belt tension tool to check the tightness of timing belts takes the gueswork out and can help prevent costly mistakes. Measures belt tensions in Newtons and lbs. from 30 lbs (130 newtons) to 180 lbs (800 newtons).

Answer  The OTC6673 is designed for automotive and light truck use. It is important obviously that the correct belt is installed or the reading will be incorrect or irrelevant. Directions state that this tension gauge is to be used on belts that it is designed for. I know that this is a bit vague, but it means to not use it on belts that have a spring loaded tensioner which adjust the tightness of the belt and not to use this on big trucks or industrial equipment belts that are excessively wide.
