OTC Genisys Scan Tool Questions – Best Deal Now FAQ
November 1, 2008 9:20 am Auto Scan Tool
DenLors has many automotive tools for sale and we answer many questions everyday. The questions below were asked recently related to Genisys scan tools and I thought I would share my responses, in case it may help others when considering the purchase of a Genisys scan tool, accessories or European software updates. Keep in mind information on software and limited time deals are obviously time sensitive, so consider the date of this post. Answer: If you already have the Euro cables and an older Euro update like 2003, the OTC 3421-73 (2005 European update) is the most recent Euro update for the Genisys right now. If you don’t have the cables see the OTC 3421-74. But OTC says if you wait for a couple of months (til around January 2009) the new European software update will be available, possibly up to 2008, instead of 2005. It makes sense to wait if you can to take advantage of the extra coverage.
Answer: Yes, we offer discounts on purchases over $1,000, see the Discount Coupon info. Basically, you get 3% off (DLTSAVE3) on purchases between one to two thousand dollars and 4% (DLTSAVE4) of on purchases over two thousand dollars.
Question: What’s my total going to be after sales tax and everything?
Question: I’m ready to buy a Genisys for my shop. How much is shipping and how long before I can expect delivery?
Answer: Ground shipping is free. Usually delivery times range from 1 to 6 days. We ship from the closest stocking warehouse to our customer and email a tracking information link once it ships so you know when to expect it.
Question: Do you have a Genisys replacement battery pack and charger available?

Do you sell a scan tool which can read the transmission fluid temp from a ford explorer?

Hassen, Thanks for your inquiry. The Genisys scan tool (which is the best buy in my opinion for the money) can access transmission data. I checked on a 2004 Explorer we have here and it does show transmission temperature.

I recently aquired an OTC genisys with pathfinder 2000 really cheap. Can I update it? It is like new. I am looking at Auto X-ray. Thanks

James, the Genisys software can be upgraded or you may want to resell it and buy the Auto X-Ray you mentioned. Both are good scan tools, however if you want more access to different systems you may want to update the Genisys.

Regarding the European Update, Is possible to install the european update software to the scan tool without having the 2003 software already installed?
Does the starter kit software unlocks the european functionality?
I would only use the OBDII connection without any need for the other cables.
dennisb on the European Software :

Tom, you can upload the European software as long as the scan tool has 2.0 or 3.0 operating software. You are able to access vehicle enhanced data only if you have the vehicle specific cables though. The update wouldn’t really help unless you have these cables as well. Now you can access OBD generic codes with what you already have.

Rehan, Updates are available, I’m not sure your going to be able to flash with the Genisys though. You may want to call OTC and talk to tech support (Phone 800-533-6127) to find out more on the flashing capability. As far as I’m aware accessing is possible with most systems but not flashing.

I am looking at OTC Genisys scanners and your site has the 3484 with free 2008 software upgrade coupons. I want to be sure the coupons are still valid before purchasing as OTC said they are not honoring them when I called them to ask and they said to ask the seller of the item to check the dates on the coupons included to be sure.

Tim, Thanks for the inquiry. We’ve been getting that question a lot. The coupons are good, the person that you talked to was misinformed. However, we are out of the 3484 with 07 loaded and coupons. The good news is that we have the OTC3484 in stock right now with Domestic / Asian with 08 ALREADY loaded! Supplies are limited but this is a great deal while they last.
