A Perfect Get Away to Escape It All

Old Florida Vacation

The picture above is of my wife Lori, our Toy Fox Terrier Sophie and of myself under an old style umbrella from the early 70’s.

We all need a break from our hectic work schedules from time to time. As an automotive technician for over 23 years and now as the owner/manager of DenLors automotive tool sales operation, sometimes it’s nice not to even see or hear a car for awhile.

Little Gasparilla Island fit the bill nicely. Little Gasparilla is a barrier island about two hours south of Tampa Florida. There are no bridges to access this oasis, therefore there are no cars to speak of. This remote get away is perfect for anyone that wants needs to escape the rat race and enjoy a little of what old Florida was really all about in years past. It seems vacations have been so commercialized by theme parks and resorts. The island is very remote, that’s the way the residents and vacationers like it. During our stay we had the beach to ourselves most of the time.

The beach rental we stayed at was named La La Land for obvious reasons. This house is on the beach….I mean right on the beach. When you can catch fish from the balcony (and we did) you can’t get much closer.

The week went by all too fast, time to get back to work. On the evening before we came back to civilization, we snapped this pic of a beautiful Gulf of Mexico sunset.
